Hiro is indeed a most talented Japanese actor, he is so well versed in martial arts and his acting is wonderful, he will expressed the feelings by using his beautiful and sexy eyes . I don’t understand Japanese language at all but I enjoyed watching his movies. I also bought a few of his music CD, his voice is sooo…..sexy…..
Am glad that he has make a mark for himself in USA (Movies – The Last Samurai, Rush Hour 3, Speed, The City of Your Final Destination, 47Ronins…, drama serial – Lost 6, and now…Revenge…….), hoping he will star in more movies and drama serial and make him a well known star in the Universe…….

I just want to let you know that I liked the charecter Ujio the best of all the cast members in The Last Samurai. I am half Japanese, and I understand what you were trying to say with your charecter Ujio.

I am from India and passionate about movies. the last samurai is one of my all time favorite movie. and somehow mr sanada’s role in it moved me the most. he is one of the most talented actors and I have become a fan of his. thanks for making this website on him and letting us know so much more about this fascinating person.

It is a very nice article. I know several people like are described here, modesty, warm, charming. I´m trying to learn from them. It is not very easy process. It took several years, and I know, it will take much more. Then I will be, maybe once, such like they are. Happy from small things, even from every day of my life, satisfied and insinde in peace. That is my target and I just hope, I will be able to catch it before I die.
I´m also happy, that I read it, because I just saw Aegis several days before and have to say, I was dissapointed. I expected some movie like Under Siege with Steven Seagal, just in japanese version. And that was the problem. I expected well trained martial artist, who will fight with the whole army just with hands. And…nothing. Just a normal man, who cannot breathe, when he is running. But after I read this article, I will try to look at it again by antoher eyes. Can I ask for some help? I have a film in japanese version with english titles and there is one scene in the end, when some lady is gping to the cemetry with flowers and is speaking to somebody, who is burnied. There is probably name, written on the grave, but in japanese and it is not translated. Can you write me, what is there written, please?
What I can say, and what I like in every Sanadaś movie, is his nice behaving. He, usually, dóesn´t shout, he is not upset or angry. Even he is a policeman, for ex. in Shinjuku Same. He is always calm, but not strict, calm and nice. Always. Thank you for these films. And one more thing, what I really appreciate, Aegis and Shinjuku Same are films, when he doesn´t die in the end. Because in many other films he does.

I guess a BELATED Happy Birthday would be more appropriate for Hiro, sorry I just found this site. What a wonderful actor. I have watched The Last Samauri so many times I have lost count. For whatever reason, I feel cosmically connected to this movie, it is my favorite movie of all time. My connection goes far beyond my affinity for the Asian culture as my adopted Father was full blooded Chinese born in the states. I was once told that I was Asian in a past life, and one that bound her feet, can someone say OUCH. Even though my strong connection to this movie escapes my understanding, I do know saying it is a strong connection is a major understatement. Maybe some time during my eternalness it will be revealed to me.

Thank you very, very much for the translation and comments, Misty. It is always worth to read precise “extras” of a movie, mostly if it is so much intriguing like this one. I loved it since the first time I saw it – and it had no subtitles then! – and got all the power of the feelings of all the characters involved, and all the interferences with the political/historical situation of the time, even if I am living quite fareaway. I consider it one of those masterpieces that put a mark in history, showing an exact point in the times it appeared. Sanada san is definitely convincing. As usual he is amazingly changed to give body and voice to the man he plays. Anyway, he is perfectly supported by all the others. It seems a giants’ performance.
